IRGC Strikes 18 U.S. Targets, Attacks U.S. Fifth Fleet in Bahrain
Among the most significant actions, the IRGC launched a drone assault on the U.S. Fifth Fleet in Bahrain, according to a report by a semi-official news agency.
"In this wave of military drone attacks, the communications antennas and radar installations of the Fifth Fleet's Patriot system were targeted," the report said.
Both Bahrain and Kuwait confirmed their air defense forces had intercepted incoming missiles and drones. Kuwait subsequently announced a temporary closure of its airspace as a precautionary measure in response to the Iranian attacks, with the Kuwait Civil Aviation Authority posting on X that flights were being diverted to alternative airports.
The U.S. Central Command fired back, announcing the completion of additional strikes against multiple Iranian targets. It characterized the action as a direct response to Iran's "unwarranted and continued aggression."
On the ground inside Iran, explosions were reported in the southern city of Sirik and in Abik in Qazvin province in the west, according to Iranian media, alongside widespread reports of drone activity across other areas of the country.
Adding a diplomatic dimension to the escalating conflict, U.S. President Donald Trump said earlier Thursday that Washington had been engaged in direct communications with Iranian officials — a claim Tehran flatly denied.
